Recreation Gown for the Patterns of Fashion Award
Danielle recreated the Closed Gown & Petticoat in Green Silk c. 1780-90 from Janet Arnold’s Patterns of Fashion 6 as a thesis project for her MFA; her gown was chosen as the winner of the UK Costume Society’s Patterns of Fashion Awards. The body of the dress and petticoat are figured silk, lined with glazed linen. The skirt fronts are faced with a silk taffeta and the embroidery work is a mixture of couched ribbon and gold bullion thread, with silver and black spangles throughout. As it was made as accurately to the time period of the original as possible, the entire dress was hand sewn.
